This movie shows us the story of how little Adu tries to enter Europe, looking for a better life away from his home country in Cameroon. We embark on a piercing trip; both mentally and physically, as we get to see an uncomfortable reality that happens every day when immigrants from Ceuta and Melilla desperately try to get to Spain. Released on the 31st of January 2020, the movie is available to stream on Netflix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading translation-block\">WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT <em>AD\u00da<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This film perfectly shows us the hell that millions of people; where more than 70 million in 2018 abandoned their homes in order to have the possibility of getting a better life, only half of them were kids. While it is true that Ad\u00fa\u2019s character is present in order to show more sympathy for him since he\u2019s only a little boy, it isn\u2019t a cheap move on the writer\u2019s behalf at all. It represents a reality that nowadays is very present; where millions of kids like Ad\u00fa have to leave their families and see how people die while trying to get to a place where they just hope their lives will be improved a bit more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It\u2019s heartbreaking to see how little Ad\u00fa has to face these problems by himself; witnessing his sister\u2019s death, or how his friendship with Massar is stripped away right in the end. He\u2019s a kid whose childhood has been robbed and there\u2019s nothing and no one who\u2019ll make it up to him; because he\u2019s not the only one who\u2019s in that position. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size translation-block\">What differentiates this movie from others such as <em><a aria-label=\"undefined (abre en una nueva pesta\u00f1a)\" href=\"https:\/\/cinematikos.com\/en\/review-de-yuli-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yuli<\/a><\/em>, is that the emotional moments are very well done. They stuck all the landings and transmitted exactly what the movie required them to. You get to feel what it is like to be clandestinely on a plane with your life on the line, or to be in cold waters with a rope as the only thing that brings you and someone else together with the same objective of reaching your next destination. <em>Ad\u00fa<\/em> makes you feel anguished, nervous, relieved, sad, and empty. It makes you open your eyes and realize what is going every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.ecartelera.com\/noticias\/fotos\/59100\/59153\/1.jpg\" alt=\"Cr\u00edtica, 'Ad\u00fa': la realidad de la inmigraci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de los ojos ...\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It doesn\u2019t waste any time and cuts straight to the point. You always feel that something is happening when Ad\u00fa is with his sister or Massar. They\u2019re always on the move and you barely have the time to take a breath. And that\u2019s perfect, because that\u2019s how it is in real life. You don\u2019t have time to rest when you\u2019re looking how to get to Europe. What matters is that you make it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em>Ad\u00fa<\/em> makes you anxious by watching how a taxi driver wants to abuse Ad\u00fa by locking him up. It makes you feel nervous when Ad\u00fa and Massar escape the police van and are constantly hiding. You feel relieved when you see that after being all alone in cold waters, Ad\u00fa is rescued and reunites with Massar. It\u2019s sad to see how Ad\u00fa desperately shouts in vain when he realizes that he\u2019ll never see Massar ever again. And finally, you feel empty when you understand that despite all of Adu\u2019s efforts to escape Cameroon aren\u2019t fully rewarded, as he ends up in a center for teenagers. He wakes up and sees that everyone is in the same position as he is. And unless something really strange happens, he\u2019ll spend a lot more time there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.cear.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/adu.jpg\" alt=\"Ad\u00fa, una pel\u00edcula inspirada en dos ni\u00f1os acogidos por CEAR tras ...\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The film has three stories going on at the same time: Ad\u00fa\u2019s, Mateo\u2019s, and Gonzalo\u2019s. All of these stories help us see both sides of immigration; where Spanish policemen have to deal with massive waves of immigrants trying to get over the fence in Melilla, lots of times counting with less staff than what they really should. For Ad\u00fa, the movie tells you what steps the immigrants have to follow in order to just arrive at the fence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As for Gonzalo, his daughter\u2019s life is shown to compare it to Adu\u2019s. Gonzalo tries to help Sandra become a better person, despite her showing signs of arrogance. We see that while being in a country similar to what Adu had to live in, she has so many commodities that the locals can only dream of having. It all depends on what we have internalized as common, and we only realize what we have until we lose it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lacronosfera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Ad%C3%BA-3.jpg\" alt=\"AD\u00da: El sue\u00f1o de sobrevivir - La Cronosfera\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading translation-block\">WHAT'S NOT SO GOOD ABOUT <em>AD\u00da<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I have to admit that I really don\u2019t understand what Gonzalo and Sandra\u2019s characters are in the movie for. Regardless of how good of an actor Luis Tosar is and how good Anna Castillo\u2019s performance is; I really think that this subplot was poorly done, and I don\u2019t think the movie would\u2019ve suffered too much had it been removed. We know that Gonzalo is there because he wants to save elephants, but he doesn\u2019t get to do much in this movie. He appears at the start and then randomly pop us from time to time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">I get that the intention was to show the contrast between Ad\u00fa and how ungrateful Sandra can really be; as well as the parallel in the end with Sandra crossing the border to go back home, while it\u2019s the opposite for Ad\u00fa. But I think that this contrast could\u2019ve just been done with the Spanish police in Melilla. That\u2019s the only thing I can really point out as a negative for this movie. Maybe I haven\u2019t fully understood these characters purpose in this fil, but as for now, this is the only thing that stops this film from being a 10\/10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hips.hearstapps.com\/hmg-prod.s3.amazonaws.com\/images\/adu-pelicula-poster-1579870527.jpg\" alt=\"Cr\u00edtica de 'Ad\u00fa'\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>IN CONCLUSION<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size translation-block\"><em>Ad\u00fa<\/em> is a film that shows us a very uncomfortable reality that lots of times we rather forget about but is necessary to be reminded from time to time. It has a fantastic direction, with beautiful shots and remarkable acting from everyone. Its only weak point is Gonzalo and Sandra\u2019s subplot, which could\u2019ve been done much better. Nevertheless, a fantastic movie that deserves to be watched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>VERDICT: 9\/10<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fanfan.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/adu-2.jpg\" alt=\"Ad\u00fa.
